New Chapter Publication! The Art of Mentoring Trauma-Informed Educators
Updated: Aug 10
We are excited to share a recent book chapter, “The Art of Mentoring Trauma-Informed Educators: Considerations for Teacher Education Programs,” published in Mentoring to Support Teacher Candidate Development.
In this chapter, we explore the role of mentorship in supporting teacher candidates as they develop trauma-informed knowledge, perspectives, and practices. The chapter focuses on three key levels of mentorship in a teacher candidate’s journey: associate teachers, Faculty of Education instructors, and peers.
These relationships can play an important role in helping future educators build the skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to support trauma-informed practice. Recommendations for mentor training, qualities of trauma-informed mentors, and the importance of a holistic, community-based approach to mentorship are also discussed.
